Reach out, shoot for the sky and don’t take ‘no’ for an answer
PhD scholar, casual academic, Data61 researcher and soon to be a Google Fellow in Silicon Valley, Samaneh Movassaghi is a poster girl for Women in Technology.
Having authored over 20 research articles with over 1000 citations, Samaneh is already recognised for her cutting edge research on wearable networks (wearables) and has received numerous awards, including ICT Student of the year and researcher at the Australian Computer Society (ACS) Digital Disruptor Awards 2018.
Samy graduated from the University of Tehran, completed her Masters in Telecommunication Engineering at UTS in 2012 and now completing her doctorate at ANU.
She has just been awarded a prestigious Google Fellowship in Networking for her PhD research. We wish her well on her journey to the United States!

Life is somewhat like a game of chess. Only the playground is not fixed and the opportunities are immense, but there is a success formula for achieving what you want!
It lies within you and the only way to achieve it is to ‘program’ your mind to do so. Your brain is like a computer which will do and act as you program it to.
No matter what one’s conditions in life, each and every human being is capable of achieving what they put their heart into, if they have programmed themselves the right way. It requires self discipline at the outset and then EXECUTION of the plan.
To do so, you need to be a ‘master of you’! By this I mean you need to know your own strengths and weaknesses. Use every interaction and challenge you come across in life to get to know yourself better and how to improve on your next one. Embrace every resource and opportunity to improve yourself!
Never accept no for an answer. Where there is a will, there is a way – from early childhood I was not comfortable with not being given what I wanted. Being strong-willed, I would always find a way of getting what I wanted! As a small child, this meant unscrewing the door locks to get into a locked room where the ‘goodies’ were hidden or hiding under a doona at night time to play more computer games while I was meant to be asleep.
Surround yourself with a support network, people who empower you, believe in you and amplify your inner strength and constantly remind you of the unique capabilities within you. Don’t ever let your mind be polluted by negative thoughts and build a positive mental attitude for the sacred zone of your beautiful mind.
Once you enrich your knowledge on your target – shoot for the sky – there is no limit!
