On 30 July, as part of Melbourne’s Cyber Security week, 25 of Australia’s leading cyber security employers including ANZ, Optus, PwC, AusPost, Hivint and a range of innovative, local cyber security startups and SMEs met with 130 eager, talented students from Melbourne universities and TAFE.
AustCyber CEO, Michelle Price, rallied the crowd and expressing delight at the diversity of culture, gender, skill sets and universities and TAFEs represented.
“Facilitating talent growth is one of AustCyber’s key drivers.
“The cyber security sector is facing significant skills shortages, and we want to ensure the future talent pipeline is exposed to an industry offering rapid progression for smart people with tech, sales, marketing, analytics, consulting, policy and research capabilities”, Ms Price said.
Founder and Director of Ribit, Liz Jakubowski, also advocated strongly to the young people in the room to connect with employers in the room. “Today is not just about landing a job, but also an opportunity to learn, practice presenting yourself and engaging with employers!”
Some of the roles on offer included governance, compliance and risk officers, security consultants and technical role such as penetration testing, security assessments, source code review, red teaming physical security and technical report writing. There were also entry level graduate positions requiring project management, marketing and front end developers.
Industry mentors also attended the event to provide additional support as well as a pitch coaching session for the students.
